The World of Eplans

For some time now electronic plans (eplans) have been available from services and plans rooms like Dodge McGraw Hill and iSqFt. Our Digitizer module lets you use these files to produce a RoofCAD drawing backed up with a comprehensive takeoff record giving you complete measurements for areas, lineal feet and counts. Our current Digitizer customers already know this.

Here's the new fun part. As satellite images become more available, a whole new world is opening up. Digitizer can handle satellite images much the same as eplan files. Satellite images are your eplans from outer space! Now you can get "plans" for almost every roof in the country.

Granted, it's not perfect yet. Satellite images are scalable but image quality isn't always the best. This should improve as the technology becomes more accessible for civilian use.

So far, our customers have found the following uses:

Generate takeoff quantities for reroof bids and budgets. If you need more accuracy, though, you've got to visit the roof. Accuracy is dependent on several factors including image quality.
Pre-draw the roof so that when you do your inspection you're not starting with a blank page. Then, on site, verify dimensions and roof top objects.
